School Hall Athletics

Longford Sports Partnership Sports Hall Athletics Competition 2019

Our SPORTSHALL Athletics competition took place in February and March this year in St. Mel’s College and Ballymahon Convent Sports Halls, we had over 600 primary school students participating over the 5 competition days, which consisted of mixed teams of girls and boys from 3rd to 6th class from 17 Town & County schools around Longford.

SPORTSHALL Athetics is an exciting indoor programme of adapted athletics activities. It includes track and field events which are made up of relays, obstacle relays, standing long jump, standing triple jump, vertical jump, speed bounce, chest push & soft javelin.

SPORTSHALL provides fun ways to build core skills and is renowned for its exhilarating team competitions.

The four finalist teams from St Matthews NS Ballymahon, St. Mary’s NS Newtowncashel, St. Michael’s Boys School, Longford & St. Joseph’s NS, represented Longford in the National Inter County Festival of SPORTSHALL Athletics held in the AIT International Arena, Athlone on Wednesday the 27th March. The students put in huge effort on the day and placed 3rd in 5/6th boys category.

We would also like to thank our Athletics Ireland coach Brendan Doyle for training the students for the Sports Hall festival and for running the competition days for us, we would also like to thank the TY Students from Ballymahon Convent and St. Mel’s College for their help with the competitions and all the schools who participated in this year’s programme.
