Longford Sports Partnership Awards 2015

The Sin Bin Events Centre was full to capacity on Friday night, 20th November for the fourth annual Longford Sports Partnership Awards. An enthusiastic crowd turned out to support our local sporting talent, with Tony Ghee an excellent and charismatic MC. Mulleady Properties and Co. Ltd. were main sponsors for the event and oversaw the presentation of the 2015 Perpetual Longford Sportsperson of the Year Trophy. Martin Mulleady presented the Award to up and coming rugby star, Eoin Corcoran. 2015 was a great year for Eoin, gaining Leinster and National honours at U-18 and U-19 level on several occasions. Siobhán McGuinness, Co-ordinator of Longford Sports Partnership explained that judges had identified one individual who had 'demonstrated outstanding dedication to sport and exceptional leadership skills' which warranted recognition. Founder of Torpedo Basketball Club and lifelong sports lover, Vinny Forde was greeted with an emotional standing ovation when he was called to receive his 'Exceptional Service to Sport: Hall of Fame' Award. Vinny's involvement in sport has spanned decades, numerous sports including Basketball and Soccer, as well as various roles from club president to physio and referee. Chair of Longford Sports Partnership, Stephen Coy congratulated all winners and highlighted the exceptional work and achievement in the County, recognising that for a small County, Longford 'punches well above its weight'. Longford Sports Partnership would like to congratulate all winners and clubs, extend its thanks to its judging panel and to Martina Glennon of Optimum Events for their ongoing support of the event and their professionalism.
