Pony Riding and Animal Welfare Programme

This programme is open to young adults from low income families and disadvantaged backgrounds. The 8 week programme is funded through the Department of Agriculture, Longford Community Resources Limited and Longford County Council. The base for the programme is Mosstown Stables in Kenagh where the participants learn how to walk the ponies, trot and do some small jumps. The instructors teach the participants how to handle the ponies, tack up and muck out. The programme also involves a day trip to the race academy and the National Stud where the participants of the programme learn about the possible future of working in the equine industry. On conclusion of the programme there is an exhibition of the participant’s skills and a presentation evening.
