The launch was also attended by County Mayor, Paul Connell, Mayor of Longford Town Council, Christy Warnock and Mayor of Granard Town Council, Sean Howard, as well as other dignitaries and guests.

The three year plan was developed following an extensive consultation process with schools, agencies and sporting groups and enthusiasts. It aims to enable the ongoing development of quality sporting and active recreational opportunities throughout County Longford in an environment that promotes healthy lifestyles, maximum participation and achievement.

Addressing a packed Council Chamber, John Treacy outlined the necessity of the Sports Partnership model as a useful vehicle to further the ethos of greater participation for all. He also complimented the Partnership on its good work to date in co-ordinating key programmes on the ground and reiterated the importance of working in Partnership with local agencies.

Mayor Connell also spoke of the importance of working together at a local level, stating that the LSP is well placed within the local authority structure and plays a key role in accessing resources nationally and ensuring that there is equitable distribution locally. He also congratulated the County's Hurlers and Minor GAA teams on their recent successes as did Stephen Coy, Chairperson of Longford Sports Partnership.

Stephen provided an overview on the work of the LSP to date and the key target areas included in the strategy: Increasing Participation, Sports Infrastructure, Leadership, Education and Training, Communication and Governance of the Partnership. He also highlighted the good work been done at grass roots level by clubs and other sporting organisations and thanked the LSP Board, ISC and County Development Board for their continued support.
